Chesil Kit Cars - the 356 Speedster
If you have yearned for something a little different, something other than a mass produced bland-looking box they call a car, take a look at the Speedster 356 from Chesil Kit Cars.
See, the Chesil speedster is inspired by the classic 1956 Porsche 356, with its distinctive curves and unique sense of automotive flair. The original Porsche 356 embodied a magical era in motoring, with its top-down, wind-in-your-hair freedom that seems a million miles away from todays congested motorways and gridlocked rush hours.

The Chesil kit car is based around a Volkswagen Beetle floorpan and running gear. The floorpan requires shortening in order to maintain the Speedsters handling characteristics, and Chesil offer a range of modified floorpans for those who don’t want to get their hands dirty.
Although the Chesil Speedster runs quite happily using the original VW Beetle engine, Chesil also provide a selection of hand built engines by Arnie Levics Engineering, including a 2000cc 110bhp twin carb powerplant that should keep even the most power hungry driver happy. However, if you really want an authentic speedster replica, it has been known for Porsche engines to be shoehorned into a Chesil 356.
By using much of the original Volkswagen Beetle, it is possible for UK kit builders to register their Chesil as a rebodied VW which means that they can keep the original registration plate. And they look much better than those tacky Q plates, don’t you agree.
So overall, a finished Chesil Speedster 356 kit is a classy sports car that looks, handles and performs like the original Porsche 356.

It appears that the Chesil Motor Company has been bought by The Tygan Motor Company Ltd. They have phased out the self build kit but turnkey speedsters are still available. Tygan announce that they will also still provide spare parts.
